Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Yokohama FC

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 7th Sec Match against Yokohama FC

Based on the current match schedule, we played three matches in a short period of time before we had a little break. We then played another set of three matches over a short period and today’s match was the third one.

Since the previous two matches we played were somewhat loose in our control, we came prepared to redeem ourselves during today’s match against Yokohama FC.

Our opponent team was built up well with a good system and positioning and had a very strong form of attacks. Against such a team, our team responded quite well by starting the match with a firm defense.

Our opponent team also created more opportunities than we did. However, it was great that we were able to conquer the decisive moments to make the most of the crucial chances we created.

Questions and Answers

Q: Compared to the previous two matches, it looked like your team was able to take the ball from the opponent team quite tactfully to initiate attacks today.

A: It was not that our team was not able to play like they did today in the previous matches. But, it came down to how long our team was able to retain the ball and how many times we were able to initiate good attacks.

Q: You had two different center back players as well as Kashiwagi playing on the pitch today. It has been a while for some of your team players since they last played on the pitch. What was your intention for introducing these players for the match and how did you evaluate their performance today?

A: As I always say, I select the team members by assessing what we wish to achieve as a team while anticipating what type of match our opponent team would play. I also take our players’ condition into my consideration too.

Q: How would you reflect on the past six matches your team played since the J. League had resumed?

A: We have only finished playing six matches since the reopening of the J. League and only seven matches in total since the season started. As this is the case, I feel it is still too early to give you an overview as such. But, we want to work together to make sure what we have seen and learnt over the past six matches will be reflected in our preparation and upcoming matches. When I say “we work together”, I include everyone concerned such as staff members, players and our club as a whole.

Since we played an away match again today without being able to have our fans and supporters in the stadium, I felt the very strong sense of it being an away match. I now feel even more stronger about working together with our fans and supporters in order for us to move forward.

Q: I trust it was a positive development for your team how they navigated the match after taking the lead as well as scored an additional goal before the end of the match today.

A: I am pleased that we were able to save our goal with zero scored while winning another goal at the very end. That was all that mattered in the end.
