Of the 60 individuals (roses) that the breeder created through repeated crossbreeding, only two were satisfactory reds. From these two, he improved the "strength" and "ease of growing" to create the one-of-a-kind "Reds Red" that expresses the team colors.

<Ease of cultivation>
This variety can be planted in a pot or in the ground, and grows compactly at about 80cm tall. It has excellent disease resistance and can be grown safely even by beginners who have never grown roses before, which represents Urawa Reds' goal of being "a club loved by everyone."

<Strength>
It is a perennial variety that blooms repeatedly from spring to autumn. It is also a variety that blooms many flowers in one cluster and has good flowering. Most perennial varieties tend to have fewer flowers in autumn, but Reds Rose has good flowers in spring as well as autumn, and has a strong, practical nature.

Reds Rose STORY

world's first,
How roses named after soccer clubs were born

The birth of this rose dates back to 1999.
At the final league match of the same year at Komaba Stadium, Urawa Reds were relegated to J2, and the cheers died down, with a heavy silence hanging over the stands.
The players were overcome with despair. Then the fans and supporters in the stands began chanting "We are REDS!" with tears in their eyes.
It was a call of promise, "Even if we are in J2, we will support the team and bring them back to J1 in a year." It was an unforgettable moment when the club was connected by true ties with the teammates who love Urawa.

Later, the club's desire to give back to the people of its hometown who love Urawa and to build further bonds with them, and the desire of a rose breeder living in Saitama City (formerly Yono City) to "create a bright red rose that represents the local soccer club" overlapped, and they began breeding an original rose based on roses, which are loved all over the world.
After repeated crossbreeding and experimental cultivation, "Urawa Red Diamonds" (nicknamed Reds Rose) was finally completed in 2010.
The rose was created to be fitting for Urawa Reds Reds, by adding the themes of "Reds red," "loved by everyone," and "strength" to the characteristics of traditional roses.

The history of Reds Rose
"From 'item' to 'symbol'"

In 2012, we cooperated in the Saitama Stadium Park greening project and planted trees at the stadium, and then began activities focusing on landmark spots for the club and its hometown of Saitama, such as Urawa Komaba Stadium and Reds Land.
In 2013, through participation in citizen collaboration projects promoted by the Saitama City Park and Green Space Association and collaboration with the Saitama Prefecture Park and Green Space Association, the planting area was expanded from Saitama City to the entire Saitama Prefecture, including parks and facilities managed by both associations. As planting in public facilities progressed, awareness gradually increased, and from around 2017, the circle expanded to include schools, mainly elementary, junior high and high schools in Saitama City.

In the fall of 2020, a collaborative planting project with Saitama City Chuo Ward was launched. This project involves the government, the club, local businesses, and rose supporters working together to contribute to the "creation of a sustainable 'Chuo Ward, the city of roses'" through planting activities. Through this initiative, Reds Rose's planting activities have been elevated to the status of a Sharen! activity.
The Reds Rose is not just an item for planting trees, but a symbol of community building, fan engagement, and engagement that connects the local area with the club.

What's next for Reds Rose?
"To contribute to creating a happy city filled with smiles"

The flower language of Reds Rose is threefold: "Loved by everyone, strong, and perseverance." The breeder, Takashi Kawai, has given us the following comment:

"I think this rose, called 'Urawa Red Diamonds', really represents the Urawa Reds. It is loved by everyone, is strong, and knows how to endure. Plants have good times and bad times, but if you give it love, it will grow long and healthy. It may look weak in the winter because it goes dormant, but by storing up energy during this period, it will sprout powerfully and bloom into fiery red flowers in the spring. To bloom beautifully, it needs periods when it does not bloom. I think the same can be said for Urawa Reds. I would be happy if you could grow it while thinking of the Reds Rose and Urawa Reds. And I sincerely hope that you will feel many things from this rose and that it will enrich the hearts of all the fans and supporters. "

With Mr. Kawai's thoughts in mind, Urawa Reds will continue to promote the Reds Rose project with the message "Continue to shine in our hometown!" and contribute to creating a happy city filled with smiles of the people of their hometown along with the bright red roses in full bloom.
