Team Manager Oswaldo Oliveira – press conference after the match against Shonan Bellmare

Comment from Team Manager Oliveira after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 33rd sec match against Shonan Bellmare

We had a very fierce match today. Both teams had a different match agenda, but both wanted to win. Urawa Reds created many goal-scoring opportunities, but we were not able to nail those opportunities. On the other hand, Shonan Bellmare had managed to make the most of the little opportunities they had created. Being able to nail the scoring opportunities created made the difference to the outcome of the match in the end.

Questions and Answers

Q: After your opponent team scored two goals, what plan did you have for the team?

A: Our team had formed a good formation by having a good triangle on both sides particularly on the right side throughout the match. However, when the performance through that formation started to suffer a little, and the second goal was lost, I decided to put Zlatan in as the target in order to bring the ball closer to our opponent’s goal area. Even though we were able to have a good form in place, we couldn’t score any goals from doing so.

Q: You have decided to put Motegi and Taketomi to play in the match today after a long while. How do you evaluate their performance today?

A: They both had good training. They were asked to play in today’s match under our current emergency situation. As for Taketomi, the position he was put in wasn’t his usual position. However, since Kashiwagi was suspended from today’s match, he took on this role as he has experienced playing in this position when our team had practice matches against university teams and youth teams in the past. Taketomi certainly worked hard to fulfill his role today and showed some great performances. However, I must say he was not playing in his usual position.

As for Motegi, he is capable of playing in many different positions such as full back, wing back and center back. Out of all those positions, the most challenging one for him would be a center back position in which he was asked to play today. Center back positions requires good physical strength and height. However, Motegi pulled out a good safe performance today. As he has great potential, I would like to see him in mid-field anchor or full back positions in the future.

Q: As a result of today’s match, there is no chance left for Urawa Reds to be amongst the top three teams and to play in the ACL through that channel. But, how’s your enthusiasm for the remaining match and the Emperor’s Cup?

A: We certainly have a strong determination to qualify to play in the ACL. Up until now, our team was aiming to win the ticket for the ACL through both the J. League and Emperor’s Cup championships. Even though we no longer have the chance through the J. League championship, we surely would like to win the title of the Emperor’s Cup in order to play in the ACL.
