Team Manager Oswaldo Oliveira – press conference after the match against Kashiwa Reysol

Comment from Team Manager Oliveira after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 10th Sec match against Kashiwa Reysol

Questions and Answers
Q: The team looked as though they struggled to wage attacks against the opponent team during today’s match. What kind of play were you expecting the team to pull out?
A: As both teams had very intensive defense, it was difficult to pass the ball through to goal kicks. To sum up the characteristic of the match today, I thought both teams had really tight defense and it was hard for both to carry the ball from the back line by ground passes. It was more beneficial to attempt long balls and pick up second balls.

Q: Was it different from the type of soccer you aim for the team to play?
A: How we play depends on how our opponent team allows us to play. We had tried to wage more fierce attacks from the side by changing sides. Though we built the right formation for this to happen during the first half of the match, our opponent team thwarted us to carry out what we had intended to do.

Q: What did you have in mind when you were building the team over the past few days since you assumed the team manager position?
A: The team has been preparing themselves since the pre-season. But, their team manager changed once in mid-course. I imagine this must have had a big impact on the team already. For this reason, I am planning to add what I want the team to achieve while making sure to keep as much continuity as possible.

Q: It was the first time for you to see the team’s performance during a match under your leadership. Did you feel that the team only needs a little tweaking to improve themselves or do you think there is a lot more required to do?
A: I don’t think there is enough time to make drastic corrections. For example, it was only yesterday that I had a team-wide training with all starting members participating for the first time. Since this practice session was held only the day before today’s official match, and we are still to play several matches over a short period of time, I am in a difficult situation to prepare the team. If you wish to bring about change in a team, it requires some time. Considering the situation we are currently in, I am hoping to make changes little by little.
