Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Shimizu S-Pulse

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 12th sec match against Shimizu S-Pulse

We had to win today’s match. We started the match with a strong determination to gain three points by winning the match no matter what.

Our team was doing very well by controlling the match up until our opponent team scored a goal.

I felt our players’ stamina dropped suddenly after Shimizu S-Pulse scored their first goal. Though five of our players started to lose their stamina, our front line players continued to wage attacks. After our players lost the ball, there was a big space in the middle of the pitch and our team received a number of counter attacks.

As a result, our opponent team came from behind and our team was lagging behind by one goal with the result of two to three. Our players continued to play hard to win the match and caught up with our opponent. After the result reached three to three, our team created a few more opportunities to score a fourth goal, though we were not able to make the most of such chances. Given the fact that Shimizu S-Pulse also created several scoring opportunities, I feel relieved that they didn’t score another goal. We finished the match with a draw today while both teams had chances to score a fourth goal.

With regard to how the match unfolded, our team did pretty well up until mid-way through the match. Even though Shimizu S-Pulse came from behind to be ahead of us, we had managed to finish the match with a draw in the end. I think the overall outcome was not a bad one in the end.

But, I am not satisfied with the actual end result of finishing the match with a draw. Though our team performed very well until about 60 minutes into the match, our players’ performance for the remaining 30 minutes was not satisfactory.
However, I have noted some points during the match today for the team to work on ahead of their upcoming ACL matches. I am aware that the type of match we had today can happen when playing soccer. Today’s match offered me a few points to consider for our team’s future performances.
