Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Jubilo Iwata

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd stage 16th sec match against Jubilo Iwata

We played today’s match against Jubilo Iwata which was also battling for the opportunity to remain in the J1 league just like our previous opponent Albirex Niigata. It was a very difficult match to play as both of us needed to secure some points either to remain in the J1 or to win the title.

Urawa Reds had controlled the match from the beginning and had created many good opportunities. However, the team struggled to actually score goals as they lacked precision at the very end.

The team eventually managed to score a goal during the second half and led the match with the result of one to zero. Our players created several goal-scoring chances after that. However, they were not able to make the most of those opportunities. When players keep letting such chances go, they often face a scenario where their opponent team catches up or even comes from behind by nailing the very few scoring chances they create. We often see this type of scenario in soccer.
I recall our team had experienced this two years ago when we played our 33rd sec match against Sagan Tosu. We were leading the match by one to zero. However, Sagan Tosu caught with us at the very last minute when we lost a goal by their corner kick. Our team had many of those painful experiences in the past and we could have faced a similar scenario today. Our team had managed to finish the match with the result of one to zero in the end today but we had the fear of our opponent making the most of their few scoring opportunities while we struggled to score a few more goals by utilizing our several good opportunities.
Having said all I have said, I was very pleased with our players’ performance today. However, they need to increase the number of goals they score from the opportunities they create. This is one thing our players have to work more on. They need to improve the accuracy of their last kicks in order to score goals to do so.
