Team Manager Mischa and Player Wataru Endo attend an official interview session the day before the match against Jeju United FC

An official AFC Champions League (ACL) 2017 pre-match interview session was held at the Saitama Stadium on the 30th of May ahead of the following day’s Round 16 2nd Leg match against Jeju United FC. Urawa Reds Team Manager Mischa and Player Wataru Endo attended the interview session to express their excitement and determination for the upcoming match.

Comment from Team Manager Mischa
For the first leg match, we had a big aim of winning the away match. However, we were unfortunately not able to achieve the goal we set to achieve. We knew before the match started that Jeju United FC’s forte is their swift counter attacks after they take the ball away from their opponent. Although we had to be careful of their counter attacks, the first half of the match progressed in the way we didn’t intend as we received their counter attacks after we lost our ball in a wrong way. We finished the first half of the match by losing a goal as a result of receiving several counter attacks by making mistakes after we waged attacks against them.

As for the second half of the match, we were able to progress the match well by not allowing our opponent team to wage counter attacks against us and making ourselves to be careful of how we lose the ball. We had created several scoring opportunities to catch up with Jeju United FC. However, we lost a second goal just before the end of the match by receiving another counter attack just as we did during the first half of the match. It was painful to lose the match by losing the second goal just before the end of the match.
As we lost the first leg match with two to zero, we are in a difficult position to play the second leg match. Jeju United FC is a very formidable team. Having said this, I believe our team is of quality to overturn the current result to be a positive one for us. Though it will be a very difficult match, all the members of our club including players and staff members will work together as one and will do our utmost in order to achieve our goal of going beyond Round 16 tomorrow.

Comment from Wataru Endo
Jeju United FC is a very united team. I was also able to see the accuracy of their counter attacks when we played the previous away match against them. We lost two goals against them during the previous match and we feel regretful about this. However, we were also able to play our style of soccer by waging attacks against them and creating several decisive opportunities. As we play next at home, we would like to play our style of soccer with our supporters cheerfully rooting for us in the stadium and score at least two goals, if not, three or four in total. I believe it is important for us to show our absolute strength in our home stadium. As this is the case, we will play with confidence that we will make it to the next round tomorrow.
