Team Manager Mischa and Abe attend official pre-match interview session

An official AFC Champions League 2015 pre-match interview session was held at Suwon World Cup Stadium in the afternoon on 24 February ahead of the group stage’s first round match against Suwon Samsung Bluewings which will be held tomorrow. Urawa Reds Team Manager Mischa and player Yuki Abe attended the interview session to answer questions by local and Japanese media.

Comment from Team Manager Mischa
First of all, I wish to say as the team manager of Urawa Reds that we are extremely happy and honored to be able to play in the AFC Champions League. As for our opponent teams in the group stage, I don’t regard ourselves particularly lucky as the other three teams are very strong and formidable opponents. Having said this, I don’t think we are beneath them in our capabilities. I expect fierce battles in the group stage but we will prepare ourselves well with a strong determination to get to the next stage.

With regard to our opponent Suwon Samsung Bluewings, if my memory is correct, we played against the team once in a practice match in 2013. As for the team manager of Suwon Samsung Bluewings, I know his play style very well as he used to play for Salzburg and Ried in Austria when I was also in Austria as a team manager of Graz.

He was truly a fantastic player who was well respected by supporters in Salzburg and Ried. I imagine he instilled his soccer philosophy as a great player in order to create a great team. For this reason, I expect a very difficult match waiting for us tomorrow.

We will play the match tomorrow after one week from our training camp. I am confident that the team prepared themselves very well. Though we will have a challenging match, we will play a good match and hope return to Japan with a positive result.

Comment from Yuki Abe
As our team manager summed up, I am very pleased and excited that we have the opportunity to play in the AFC Champions League after two years since we played last in 2013. I know tomorrow’s match won’t be easy but we have trained ourselves well in Japan during our training camps. So we must deliver a great result tomorrow. As there will be many people supporting us in Korea, I would like to show our gratitude by winning the match. We will be united as a team and give our best in order to make a good start.
