Chances not maximized during the first half affected our overall result – Team Manager Mischa

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the J. League 16th Sec match against Cerezo Osaka

It is difficult to make a comment after a match like the one we had today. But, to sum up what happened today, it was like we were punished in the end for not being able to make the most of the chances we had created.

As we had expected, Cerezo Osaka players tried to challenge us with their combination plays by making short passes. When it was difficult for them to achieve, they tried crossing from the outside. However, I thought our team was able to respond well to such attacks. During the first half of the match, there were a few opportunities which we should have used well. However, we were not able to maximize those opportunities. As a result, we suffered for the rest of the match.

During the second half of the match, since our team was leading by one point, our opponent team tried making fiercer attacks against us by taking more risks. Our team continued to defend themselves well in the middle of the field. Cerezo Osaka tried to kick long cross balls into the middle. They made many attacks against us, to which we responded well. I also thought our team made counter attacks successfully after taking the ball from them.

Looking at the second half of the match, I thought that our team was able to make a few scoring opportunities in front of our opponent’s goal. It was a real pity that we finished the match with a tied result in the end as we did today. But, having said that, we have not lost the past seven J. League matches in a row. I think we should regard this as a positive thing.
