Aiming for a win in the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup

Having won 3 consecutive games in a row, we hope to continue our good form when we play against Vissel Kobe in the next game. This will be the 2nd game of Group B in the “Yamazaki Nabisco Cup” preliminary league. The game will be held at Homes Stadium Kobe at 7 pm on 14th April.

This week, an additional game will be played on Wednesday. Various factors such as the players’ condition and the injured players have to be taken into consideration while selecting players for the game. It is very interesting to see who Team Manager Finke will choose.

In the 1st preliminary league game against Jubilo Iwata held on 31st March, the players picked were totally different from the ones that played in the 4th J.league match against Cerezo Osaka.

Nobuhiro Kato (goalkeeper), Shunki Takahashi (defender), Spiranovic (defender), Shunsuke Tsutsumi (defender) and Hiroyuki Takasaki (striker) made their debut of this season in the game against Jubilo Iwata. The players did not play well in the first half due to lack of teamwork but second half was a totally different story. The team improved drastically and played well. Ponte who played from the second half did an exceptionally good job and helped the team salvage a draw with his very last minute strike.

However, the Nabisco Cup preliminary league is very tough as just 2 teams out of 7 can advance to the final tournament. Having obtained just 1 point from the 1st game, Reds will definitely want to get all 3 points from the game against Vissel Kobe.

It will be the first game in the Nabisco Cup for Vissel. In the league, Vissel is 17th place with 1 win, 1 draw and 4 losses after having played 6 games. However, it will not be that easy to go through the middle as Edmilson (moved from Oita Trinita in 2010) will make his return to the team from injury.

On the other hand, Vissel Kobe will face difficulty in scoring goals as their team’s ace striker Yoshito Okubo will not be available. A specially registered player, Kensuke Nagai, who currently plays for Fukuoka University and is on the national players’ selection list, may play for Vissel. Vissel’s dangerman is Popo (moved from Kashiwa Reysol in 2010) who scored 3 out of the 4 goals Vissel has scored so far. We must not allow him space and have to mark him tightly.

Our result against Vissel was 1 win and 1 loss last season. However, we cannot be too optimistic. We have not won at Homes Stadium Kobe for 5 years. Our last win at the stadium was on 4th May 2005. We will definitely want to win this game.

Looking at training held at Ohara Training Ground, Naohiro Takahara is in good shape. Other than him, Genki Haraguchi, Takasaki and Yusuke Hayashi who usually are reserves are also playing well. What is significant is that the players are very motivated to grab an away win. What we want is 3 points. Let’s play to the fullest and win the game.
