What we lacked was scoring goals against the chances created-Team Manager Mischa

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the J. League 18th Sec match against Albirex Niigata

Today’s match unfolded as we had expected during our training this week. When Albirex Niigata’s current team manager Mr Yanagishita was the team manger of Jubilo Iwata, I was the team manager of Sanfrecce Hiroshima. Every time we had played against each other, Mr Yanagishita used a six back formation against my team. For this reason, I predicted that he would try the same six back formation again with six defense players, three mid fielders and one forward player. As we had expected, our opponent did implement such a defensive playing tactic. Nonetheless, our players played really well against them. Our players created five or six scoring opportunities against their nine defense players. I also thought that our players were able to block our opponent’s attacks well. They had sharp middle kicks. But, besides that, our team handled their attacks well. What our team lacked was the numbers of goals against the scoring chances they created. However, I was able to confirm one point while watching the match today.

We have played 18 matches so far during this season. We gained one point after today’s match as we finished the match in a tie. But, the one point we gained today means a lot to us. We have played nine consecutive matches without any losses until now. Last season, though Urawa Reds lost their final match, the team managed to remain in the J1 League as a result of Ventforet Kofu also losing their final match for the season. Such a team now has been able to play in a very stable manner. And the one point our team gained today made me feel assured that Urawa Reds has grown to be the team which can even gain three points by winning a match. Our team players have performed very well against very strong teams such as Niigata Albirex. Their team has great players such as Yano who was a former national team player and Hirai who was a star player in Gamba Osaka. They also have other high quality players. I believe the team has a lot more potential than their current standings indicates. For this reason, I felt the great development achieved by Urawa Reds by seeing how they played against Niigata Albirex today.

After finishing today’s match, our team still remains 3rd in the J. League standings. However, I felt that our team has grown to be the team which now can aim to score three points by winning matches. Today’s match showed us that the team which was struggling to remain in the J1 about six months ago has now come back into existence. I am proud to be able to lead my players.
