We were able to showcase the direction the team is aiming for during the first half of the match – Team Manager Mischa

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the J. League 15th Sec match against Albirex Niigata

We knew the match we played today would be a touch match as it was the J. League re-opening match played after a two-month break and we were to play against a fantastic team, Niigata Albirex. However, as far as the first half of the match was concerned, our team was able to show the type of soccer we aimed to play after the two-month break. Our team moved the ball forward from behind in a calm manner. They were able to kick high quality balls to the front line and switch swiftly to steal the ball back when they lost the ball. For this reason, our team was able to showcase what we aimed to achieve and in what direction we were aiming to move forward during the first half of the match.

At half time, the team discussed that we would continue to play like we did in order to score more goals in the second half. However, things unfortunately turned out to be contrary to what we had discussed. Our team struggled to move the ball forward and players found it difficult to find a space to come forward. As a result, there were times where our team was pressed by our opponent team for some time. Though a few of our players tried to move forward in a bid to strike attacks, opponent players stole the ball from us and we had to move back straight away on several occasions. For this reason, our team started to gradually suffer physically and we were pressed in the end. We certainly wanted to score some more goals by attacking the opponent team in the second half. However, we were forced to defend ourselves especially for the last 15 minutes or so in order to secure our leading score of one to zero.

One of the reasons our team had suffered towards the end was because of the number of offensive fouls our team was judged to have committed. There is no doubt that such referee’s decisions also had some impact on our team players’ performance.

It is necessary for the team to continuously improve the type of soccer they played during the first half and it is imperative for our players to maintain their stamina in the second half of the match so that they can play the way they did during the first half of the match. No matter how well the team prepared themselves through training matches and physical training during the break, it is always difficult to play well in an official match after a long absence. Official league matches are played in rapid tempo and in very hot weather from this season onwards. For this reason, I think it is necessary for us to play a few more official matches before we feel comfortable again.
