Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – press conference after the match against Yokohama Jubilo Iwata

Comment from Team Manager Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 20th sec match against Jubilo Iwata

It was great that we were able to gain three points by winning the away match. Since we can have a little break period, we want to work hard on our training to prepare ourselves well for the next match.

Questions and Answers

Q: Your team members were working well today. Those players who had the ball moved and passed the ball forward proactively and other members responded well to that. Some of the attack movements looked drastically different from those in the past. Did you say something different to your players and make different types of corrections before the match?

A: I don’t think things can change drastically like magic just because we did something different for a week. I trust that what our team did today was the result of our continuous hard work. As there is still unevenness in our performances depending on the timing, I want to continue to train our players well so that they can perform better consistently for a sustained period of time.

Q: Sekine played on the pitch after a period of absence today. How did you evaluate his performance?

A: It was positive that he played for a solid 90 minutes of the match today after his return.

Q: It was perhaps because the team scored three goals during the first half of the match that the team looked rather stagnant for some time in the second half of the match. What do you think you want to do about this in this regard?

A: It is not only our team’s performance but it is also important to see how Jubilo Iwata’s performance changed during the second half of the match too. Since they lost three goals in the first half of their home match, they changed a player after half time to add strength to their team so that they won’t receive any further damage. We need to assess the situation by not only paying attention to our own team but also to our opponent’s performance. As for the second half of the match today, after Adaílton was put in the team, Jubilo Iwata players settled down again and they showed their strength through.

Q: You put Shibato in a mid-fielder position today. He seemed to have responded well by reading the next movements and intercepting the opponent players’ movements when they had the ball in their possession. What did you think of his work today?

A: I agree with you. He did well today. However, it was a real pity that he received two yellow cards today. His performance was the result of his hard work during our regular training. I had a few words with him before the press conference. I told him that it was unfortunate that he was sent off from the pitch today and caused some difficulties for the team, and the result was not something to be commended. However, I also told him that this experience should not inhibit him to move forward. He should not let this cast a shadow on the positive developments he has been experiencing. We discussed that we need to make a good judgement as to how we move forward. Having said that, there was nothing admirable in him being sent off from the pitch today. But, I know that receiving a positive comment from the press like this will give him a positive boost. Thank you very much for that.
