Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Shimizu S-Pulse

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 18th Sec Match against Shimizu S-Pulse

Though we only had two days following our previous match, I am glad that our team was able to gain three points by winning our first match for the second half of the 2020 season. Several points that I shared with and asked the team to achieve were achieved and I felt that everyone including those substitute players who came off the bench worked hard by showing their determination to win today. As we are playing a succession of matches now and the next match is waiting for us right away, we will start preparing for the next match as soon as we return back to our home today.

Questions and Answers

Q: What objective did you set for today’s match and what do you think were the points that contributed today’s victorious results?

A: I wish to refrain from speaking out about our objectives as what I would comment would affect our next match. But I can identify several points that contributed to today’s positive outcome. For example, the goal Yamanaka scored following the first corner kick was the outcome of what we intended to achieve as a team. As for the second goal our team scored, Leonardo did a great job by getting the ball and supporting Koroki by passing the ball to him so that Koroki could definitely score the goal. The two substitute forward players who joined the team after Leonardo left also worked tirelessly in order to defend the team from the front. I felt so grateful to see how our team worked today following only a two-day break from our previous match. I believe those points contributed positively to the victorious result we achieved today.

Q: I trust that Kazuki Nagasawa was selected as a starting member in the defensive midfielder position for the first time this season. What was the reason? Given that the second goal scored today originated from Nagasawa’s pass, how do you evaluate his performance?

A: Nagasawa prepared to work in the position during the time off we had before the J. League reopened and he was selected to assume the position from the start of the match today. His performance today reflected what the team had prepared for as well as the hard work he put in himself. Since not only Nagasawa but also all the members of the team are performing well to achieve what they intend to achieve, we will continue to work hard as a united team to prepare for the next match.

Q: I thought the team struggled a little to press their opponent at the beginning of the match. However, Shibato and Nagasawa gradually started to take the ball from their opponent team today.

A: You are right. The reason why this was possible was not only these two players worked hard but also other members of the team were able to better adjust the team’s alignment as the match progressed. The alignment became off balanced when the team started to suffer from fatigue. But, as far as the first half of the match was concerned, our team’s performance improved in this regard.

Q: It must have been tough for the team to prepare for today’s match given there were only two days following their previous match. Having said that, the next match is coming only after two days again. How would you express the team’s enthusiasm for the upcoming home match?

A: All we will do is to do what we have to do properly and tightly, and get ready for the next match against Yokohama FC together with our players. I will work together not only with our coaching staff but also medical staff and other members of the club to focus our efforts on the good recovery of our players so that they can do their best again.
