Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – press conference after the match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima

Comment from Team Manager Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 31st sec match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima

We had a difficult match today. We wanted to gain three points by winning the match. Nonetheless, we are relieved that we didn’t finish the match with zero points. Having gained one point, we will continue to work hard to play a good game next time.

Questions and Answers

Q: I am afraid that Urawa Reds couldn’t perform well today in comparison to Sanfrecce Hiroshima. You mentioned during the press conference held yesterday that the team would aspire to do their best even when things don’t go well. What do you have to say about that?

A: I was hoping that our team would be able to come against our opponent closer and put much more pressure on our opponent team especially during the first half of the match. However, things didn’t go as I had hoped for. I thought there was a slight gap between where our opponent players were and where our players were, though it didn’t seem that way looking at the screen image. Nonetheless, our team tried their best.
Another point to note is that even though our opponent team came quite close to scoring another goal, it was good that our team prevented this from happening. We were also able to better control the match for some time after half time. It was good that our team was able to carry out some of the points we aimed to carry out and scored a goal. When playing a match, it is difficult for one team to dominate the game for the entire 90 minutes. I am glad that we were able to score a goal by making the most of the positive development we had during the match. We must increase the number of such opportunities and positive outcomes during the matches we play. However, it proved to be quite difficult today.

Q: Iwanami scored the goal today. How do you evaluate his performance?

A: The way he scored the goal was good. Everything that led to his goal scoring such as his attitude, the way he was after the second ball and how he struck the ball was all really good. I must also add that his defense was also excellent.
