Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Kashiwa Reysol

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 6th Sec Match against Kashiwa Reysol

We had a truly disappointing result today. I feel so sorry that we made such a result in our home stadium. I would like to apologies to our fans and supporters.

Questions and Answers

Q: Your team performed really well during the first half of the match by making several good attacks and creating good opportunities. But, the team seemed to have lost some focus and didn’t have a thorough defense either in the second half. What do you think about this?

A: You are right. Our opponent team scored the second goal after we lost the ball. From there onwards, our team failed to control the match although we tried to gain our momentum back. When the game became more open, we had a game plan of guarding Olunga who is an effective player longitudinally on the pitch. However, we had to put a little more weight on the front as a result and this made things more difficult for our team.

Q: Even though your team started the match really well, the team seemed rather cautious when trying to place goals and didn’t have a good momentum going for them.

A: Our team tried to achieve what they had set out to achieve today as they had practiced during training. Though they were able to battle against the goalkeeper in the penalty area, many goal scoring attempts didn’t come through in the end. It was disappointing but I didn’t think they were cautious in their approach. During half time, I did encourage my team to be bolder when trying to score a goal. Having said that, I also tell my team during training that they must remain calm in the penalty area. I want to keep giving my team the same message with a hope that this will lead to their improved goal scoring performances.

Q: I am under the impression that Urawa Reds worked hard by creating more goal scoring opportunities in both halves. However, the “cost-effectiveness” of the team’s performance was not so good today. During the half time interview, you told the team that they should not move too much. What did you think was out of gear?

A: I didn’t think they were out of gear so much but I instructed my team to continue to do what they were doing. Because their positioning was good, I encouraged them to continue with what they were already doing well.

Q: Though the media doesn’t have many opportunities to observe your team’s training, I was under the impression that you selected the members who were in good condition during training such as Muto, Ito and Fabrício for today’s match. What did you think of their performance today?

A: You are right, I wanted to select those players who have been maintaining good condition for today’s match. I want to continue to use not only those players you mentioned but others in the group. We must reflect on today’s result in order to move forward. We will continue to work hard for the coming matches.
