Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – press conference after the match against Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

Comment from Team Manager Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 22nd Sec match against Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

As we wanted to express what we have continuously been working through on the pitch, we tried to hold the ball tightly in our possession, to switch swiftly from defense to offense and to defend ourselves well from the front line. It was good that we scored the first goal in the second half of the match. However, it was a real pity that our opponent team scored a goal from a counter attack after they took the ball away from us near their penalty area.

Questions and Answers

Q: It seemed as though the team lost the goal as a result of poor handling of their second ball during the counter attack you mentioned. What do you think was the reason?

A: When Sekine was trying to chase the second ball in the penalty area, he made contact with our opponent. Though he stopped, it wasn’t because he thought it was a foul. Although this had happened, I am sure that both our players and myself were of the view that it would be necessary to go forward to get another goal rather than put up with the result of 1 to 0. In the end, we lost the ball on a header. It would have been better had we been able to stop the ball movement before it got to that point. I thought our team was pushed a little too much during the second half of the match as there were more long balls.
