Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against FC Tokyo

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 5th Sec Match against FC Tokyo

We lost the match and it was a shame about the way and timing we lost our goals today. Though our players challenged and tried to score goals with several different ideas, it was not possible for us to do so. Since our next match is only a few days away, we will prepare well in order to brace ourselves for the match.

Questions and Answers

Q: Could you tell us why Thomas Deng was not in the team today?

A: Due to his condition.

Q: You mentioned before the match that how your team battles against their opponent around the ball would be a key. It looked like this very point decided the match result today and what do you think about this?

A: Our team struggled to thwart the ball originating from Diego Oliveira. We also lacked strength in our sides when slide tackling. We also had the issue of timing. It was a shame and wasteful when our team lost the goals.

Q: It seemed as though the team struggled to wage good attacks against their opponent after losing the first goal and they were not able to create decisive opportunities today. What do you think was lacking in terms of the team’s offense?

A: It all came down to the fact that our opponent team scored the first goal. Since they scored the first goal, they assumed a good position and started to counter attack. We should have been able to avoid this type of scenario.

Q: I believe the team will have more matches where their opponent team will score the first goal throughout the season. Given this, is this one of the challenges the team must address and overcome to move forward?

A: No. It would have been better if we had more strength in our sides and were able to break the opponent team’s formation not just stopping their crossing passes. I am under the impression that our team was not able to exceed FC Tokyo’s strong approach today when on the sides.

Q: It looked as though the team was lacking in speed in their offense today. What was the reason for this?

A: I also spoke about this with the team during half time. Our opponent team was quick in covering the space before our team picked up speed. We should have been more switched on in situations where a number of players were required.
