Team Manager Oswaldo Oliveira – press conference after the match against Vegalta Sendai

Comment from Team Manager Oliveira after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 1st sec match against Vegalta Sendai

Good afternoon, everyone.

We had a very fierce match where both teams had good defense to guard against each other in order to nullify each other’s strengths today. Compared to our performance from last week, I believe our performance was also better this time. Our players fitted better in their positions and they were working well with each other by respecting a sense of distance. I was able to see good signs that things will get better in the coming matches.

Questions and Answers

Q: It seemed that Koroki might have suffered from some pain and lost his luster from mid-way through the first half of the match. I think he is the type of player who is difficult to replace but what did you think of this?

A: Even though he had a rough contact today, I thought he was performing normally. Since players have some swings during the match, they may have some down time. As far as forward players are concerned, they are always required to score goals. For this reason, even when they perform well, they may not be regarded well if they cannot score goals during a match. I am certain that Koroki will bring lots of joy to us this season. So, I would like to watch him in a calm manner.

Q: Since you finished the match with a scoreless draw, it can be said that you didn’t win or lose today. How do you regard this outcome?

A: I regard a draw as a draw. Certainly, you can describe it as a match we couldn’t win or lose. After all, we could have won the match or lost it altogether today.

Q: When you sent Martinus and Andrew to the pitch in replacement with other players, what kind of advice did you give them?

A: Firstly, regarding Martinus, he is getting a lot better including during practice compared to last year and he is currently fighting for his position. That’s how I regard his current status. As for Andrew, since he is aggressive and speedy, I introduced him in order to increase the speed of the team.
