Team Manager Oswaldo Oliveira – press conference after the match against Shonan Bellmare

Comment from Team Manager Oliveira after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 12th sec match against Shonan Bellmare

We had a very difficult match. The characteristics of the first half of the match and the second half were very different. During the first half of the match, we had Andrew in our team and we were in a good momentum as he was putting pressure on our opponent’s defense players. However, as he had to change, we lost the pressure we were putting on our opponent team. Despite this, our team had managed to create a few opportunities. However, Shonan Bellmare won the match today as they continued to play hard until the last moment by making the most of the opportunities they had created.

Questions and Answers

Q: After about thirty minutes into the first half of the match, a referee made a call which seemed to have ignited Shonan Bellmare’s fighting spirit. Do you think this judgement call affected the match and its outcome?

A: What had a determining effect was the play that followed after the call. Andrew had the opportunity to score our third goal. However, not only he wasn’t able to nail the opportunity but he had to leave the pitch and be replaced by another player as he sustained an injury.

Q: Several players who hadn’t played in recent matches played in today’s match. What did you think of their performance? Was there anything missing from their play or did you feel confidence that they are capable of playing in a critical match?

A: If anything was missing from them, that would be organized plays. But, their individual conditions were excellent. Our team had to play a series of matches over a relatively short period recently and we had to travel long distances especially when we played against Buriram United. Our players were quite exhausted. For this reason, I wanted to use our fresh players who have good endurance to play well against a competitive and swift team such as Shonan Bellmare.

I thought that they played well. However, as I had just explained, we faced an unfortunate situation and our team was not able to maintain themselves well until the very end of the match.

Q: When players were returning back to the pitch for the second half of the match, Shonan Bellmare players also seemed quite determined to win. What was your team most mindful of at that time?

A: Our team worked hard and created more chances than our opponent team with the aim to score a third goal just like Shonan players did. However, unfortunately, we were not able to score a third goal.
What symbolized today’s match may have been Fabrício’s kick. When Fabrício kicked the ball, it hit our opponent player and landed in the hands of their goalkeeper. However, when a Shonan Bellmare player kicked the ball, the ball went over our goalkeeper and we ended up losing a goal. Having said that, I believe our team kept creating many scoring chances until the very end with a strong determination to win.
