Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Vissel Kobe

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the 2016 J. League YBC Levain Cup Knock-Out Stage Quarter Final 1st match against Vissel Kobe
While we won the match today, we have only finished the first half of the match. As we must fight against Vissel Kobe again in four days’ time on Sunday in the Saitama Stadium, it’s too early to be excited about our victory today.

Though our team had performed well, personally, I am not at all satisfied with the result. In fact, I was very frustrated about today’s match.

Given the way our team players performed today, we should have been able to secure our placement in the next stage. It could have been possible for us to win by a big margin to make this a reality.

With regard to Vissel Kobe’s performance, I didn’t think they were able to create many scoring opportunities. However, they have managed to score one goal after we made a mistake by making the most of the little chance they had created.

After all, we should have nailed today’s match by scoring four or five goals. However, our team wasted the opportunities we created instead. The fact that we barely won today’s match with the result of 2 to 1 would put us in a very dangerous situation. I guess today’s result once again reflects a classic Japanese mentality. I guess they need to have a type of mentality like that of the German’s such as going the hardest to score as many goals as possible by making sure to nail the scoring opportunities they create to defeat the opponent completely.

Towards the end of the match, there was a chance that Ugajin could have executed a crossing. The judgement at the time might have been that it would be okay to finish off the match with a result of 2 to 1. However, I believe they need a stronger mentality to make sure they make the most of every chance they come across.

I have been in the world of soccer over a long period of time and my experience tells me that the ensuing match following a match like we had today would be quite a dangerous one. Though we performed well to the level that we could have confirmed our victory by winning with a large margin today, we ended the match with a tricky result such as 2 to 1. The next match that will follow will be a very risky one. Because of the result we had today, I expect a very hard match waiting for us on Sunday.

It will be difficult to progress further in this Cup if we don’t prepare ourselves well and have a very strong determination to win the next match.
