Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 1st Stage 3rd Sec match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima

As expected, every match we play in the J. League is a tough one and the match we played against Sanfrecce Hiroshima today was no exception. I thought our opponent team not only had sharper performance but also had better combination plays than our team during the first half of the match. For this reason, we faced a few difficult situations. Nonetheless, our team also created a few critical opportunities.

Our team has played seven matches over the past three and a half weeks. Since the match we played today was the last one for us to play in this short period of time, it was a very hard match for us to play. Being Urawa Reds, we are expected to win every match we play. Despite the numbers of matches we played one after another before today’s match, we were still able to show our positive attitude in reaching out for the goal by putting pressure on ourselves to take the ball from our opponent team. However, as Sanfrecce Hiroshima was sharper in their movements during the first half of the match, they managed to utilize the front space of the pitch more effectively.

Before we played the match today, I was concerned how much stamina our team members could maintain for the second half of the match. What turned out to be a positive surprise for me was that fact that our team members were able to run better than our opponent players as time passed by in the second half. Our players were able to press the opponent players with the aim to score goals especially over the last 15 minutes of the match. For this reason, I even had the impression that Sanfrecce Hiroshima was trying to finish the match 0 to 0 rather than trying to score a goal. Under such circumstances, our team created a few goal scoring opportunities. Had we had some luck on our side, we could have finished the match with a positive result. However, looking at the overall match we played, it was justifiable that we finished the match with a draw today.
