Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Kashima Antlers

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd stage 5th sec match against Kashima Antlers

I trust that today’s match was a very important match for both teams. Considering that the points from today’s match would affect our team’s annual standings, it was an especially important match for us Urawa Reds. Had we lost the match today, it would have put us in a very difficult position as the margin in the annual standings would have widen to the point where it would be difficult to catch up.

As for Kashima Antlers, had they been able to win the match today, they would have been able to be six points ahead for their annual record, which would have taken some pressures off from them.

As both teams played a very important match, both teams put all they had into the match and played very fiercely today.

With regard to the first half of the match, we struggled to control the match with our tempo while our opponent team made very aggressive attacks against us. Kashima Antlers’ players moved the match forward under their control as we kept losing the ball after a short while even when we had managed to have the ball in our possession. However, even when our opponent team was controlling the match, we did not allow them to create decisive opportunities. But, then our team also struggled to create decisive opportunities as well.

As for the second half of the match, we were able to have the ball in our possession more in comparison to the first half while Kashima Antlers players continued their aggressive attacks. However, when the ball Moriwaki had was taken by our opponent player, we lost a goal. But, after we lost the goal, we were able to play more aggressively and managed to catch up by scoring a goal, then, successfully scored another goal to come from behind in the end.

As far as today’s match was concerned, Tadanari Lee, Takuya Aoki and Naoki Ishihara who came in to play the match mid-way through by replacing other players did a great job. Their changeovers worked very effectively and they performed very positively.
In my opinion while our team won the match by coming from behind today, the overall performance suggests that it was more justifiable if the match ended with a draw.
