Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Gamba Osaka

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd stage 14th sec match against Gamba Osaka

Any match Urawa Reds plays against Gamba Osaka can be regarded as a national derby and is filled with much tension. Either of us can win or lose. We had to play today’s match having had lost our past four consecutive matches against them so it was to be a very difficult one to play. Looking back at the past four matches, some of the matches could have been won by us. However, we had lost all four matches. As this was the case, it wasn’t easy for us to play the important match against them today at the end stage of the season.

Reflecting upon our past matches against Gamba Osaka, there were many cases where our opponent players made counter attacks against us after we made mistakes and we lost goals as a result. This was something we discussed and practiced during our training this week. What was paramount for us was that our players would be disciplined and play the type of soccer we aimed to play. I believe our players were highly disciplined today.

Urawa Reds players played very aggressively today and their stamina was superior to our opponent players. When we are better than our opponent players in terms of the movement around the ball and stamina, we can be better than them in terms of our attacking style and ideas. Our players did a great job today by not allowing our opponent team chances to execute counter attacks against us as they had remained calm and did not lose the ball unnecessarily.
