Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Avispa Fukuoka

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd stage 1st sec match against Avispa Fukuoka

As it was a hot and humid day today, the players must have found it difficult to play. Despite this, our players put everything into the match until the last second and pulled out a great performance. I would like to commend them for it.

Our opponent team had high motivations to win and they came to the stadium with a strong determination to fight against us. As our player Makino had to leave the game after receiving a red card around 22 minutes into the first half of the match and our opponent scored the first goal by penalty kick, our team faced some difficulties to progress with the match. However, I was confident that our players were able to create enough opportunities to score goals despite playing with one less player. It was great that we were able to catch up with our opponent during the first half of the match.

While we had one less player, I didn’t think it would pose a big problem playing against Avispa Fukuoka’s attacks. The only potential threat that would have made it challenging for us would be due to their height as it would have been difficult if they kicked long balls and got second balls.

During the second half of the match, I introduced the two-top formation as players can make aggressive attacks once they have the ball in their possession as well as put pressure on our opponent team if the ball is in the opponent team’s possession. I sent our players onto the pitch with the intention of not allowing our opponent team to kick long balls easily and not letting our players to retreat back too far when they could get to the ball.

Our team was able to win the match as we aimed to by coming from behind and our tactic of having the two-top formation functioned really well during the second half of the match.
