Team Manager Mischa – press conference after the ACL match against Suwon Samsung Bluewings

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the AFC Champions League, Group Stage MD5 match against Suwon Samsung Bluewings

Unfortunately, we were not able to make the most of the slight chance we had been left with today. Obviously, it is certainly very much disappointing not only for us but also for the club and our supporters that we are now out of the group stage. As team manager, I feel extremely sorry for our supporters who believed in us and gave their great support to us. I would like to apologies to them.

The first half of the match turned out to be the worst we have played this season. Our opponent team had created many scoring opportunities. It wouldn’t have been a surprise even if our opponent team had led the match with the result of zero to three. However, thanks to Nishikawa’s fantastic saves, our team was able to finish the first half with the result of zero to zero. On the contrary, our team was able to carry out good attacks against our opponent team during the second half of the match. We led the match by scoring a goal. We even created opportunities to score additional goals. However, we were not able to make the most of such opportunities and lost the match as our opponent team came from behind to win. While we finished the first half of the match with zero to zero when we could have lost, we lost the match when we could have scored many goals during the second half of the match.

Playing soccer is always hard and difficult. Looking back at our performance in the ACL, we had difficulties from our first match against Suwon Samsung Bluewings as something was not quite right. We finished the match with a very disappointing result and we must accept our defeat properly. As team manager, I must take responsibility for the loss.

However, we have no time to look down when playing soccer. Another match is already waiting right in front of us. This is the way things are when playing soccer. Though we are out of the ACL, the J. League season will still continue. Now, we must focus our minds on our next match against Nagoya Grampus. We must accept our defeat firmly and what we learn from the defeat is important. It is inevitable that we will be criticized for being knocked out in the ACL group stage. If we cannot achieve a positive result, we will be criticized and this is what we expect as part of our profession in the soccer sphere.
