Team Manager Mischa – press conference after the ACL match against Beijing Guoan

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the AFC Champions League, Group Stage MD4 match against Beijing Guoan

The match ended up with a very disappointing result. We couldn’t start the match well. Our opponent team started the match sharper than our team did and they controlled the match. As a result, our team lost a goal from a corner kick. After we lost the goal, we managed to gain control over the match but we lacked in precision when it came to our last passes.

As I am the team manager of Urawa Reds, I may be biased towards my own team but I thought our team was able to carry out an ideal match in the second half. Our team played our style of soccer in swift tempo throughout the last 45 minutes of the match. They also created so many great opportunities by making a variety of different attacks as if we couldn’t tell defensive and offensive positions, which I trust to be very rare to see not only in Japan but also in the rest of the world.

However, we unfortunately finished the match with a draw result of one to one. I feel very sorry for our team players for not being able to bring them a victory after they put so much into the match today. I also feel terrible about not being able to bring our supporters a positive result who came to the stadium despite today being a weekday and created a fantastic atmosphere for us. Though we were not able to achieve the result we were after, I truly hope Urawa Reds to continue to play as we did today and I trust this will have a positive impact on the Japanese soccer sphere.

I am particularly pleased about our team’s performance during the second half of the match and I am proud of our players for continuing to play as they did. Obviously, I am well prepared for receiving harsh media comments tomorrow as Urawa Reds hasn’t won any ACL matches as we drew the match today. It is not uncommon in the soccer world. Nonetheless, I am proud of our players’ performance today as their team manager.
