Press conference after the match against Ulsan Hyundai FC

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the AFC Champions League 2019 Round 16 1st leg match against Ulsan Hyundai FC

Though we were able to score the way we did and had good intentions as to how we would play the match today, there is still a lot that needs to be addressed in terms of how we should control the match over 90 minutes. We still have the 2nd leg match to play. We will do our best for the 2nd leg match.

Questions and Answers

Q: When your opponent team had the ball, Urawa Reds seemed to have waited for them to come to you rather than going after them from the front today. What was the reason for this?

A: Given their speed and height, we didn’t want to give them some space. We had a few intentions such as not to lose any goals in our home stadium. Unfortunately, we couldn’t nail the first goal we attempted to score. Honestly speaking, I think our team could have done better today.

Q: After the match ended, Urawa Reds fans gave a big round of applause and cheer today. I believe there are many meanings behind their such response. How did you interpret them? Could you please also tell us about your determination for the 2nd leg match?

A: I feel so grateful for our fans and supporters who bolster us even after a lost match. In response, it is important for us to show them how we work hard for the 2nd leg. We will work hard so that we can give many things back to our fans and supporters for what they do for us.

Q: You mentioned that the team needs to do more throughout the 90 minutes of the match. Can you please elaborate on this?

A: Apologies but as we still have another match waiting, I would like to respond to your question next time.
