We were not able to control the ball well when we had the ball to ourselves-Team Manager Petrovic

Comment from Team Manager Petrovic after the J. League 23rd Sec match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima

Since it was a home game for us, we played the match to gain three points by winning the match. Though we are not satisfied that the match ended in a draw with the result of 1 to 1, it was perhaps understandable when looking at how the match was played.
When we were preparing ourselves for the match, I told the team during our meeting that Sanfrecce would become very defensive when their opponent’s offensive was strong. As a result, most of their players would go back to their side of the pitch. When this would be the case, Sanfrecce’s formation would be five players on defensive, two in front of those five players and another two would be MF positions and their forward player Sato would remain on the front line. This means that if we were to break through their centre line, it would be necessary for us to break their side lines. This was what we discussed and trained during the preparation. However, we were unable to control the ball well when we had the ball. We were not able to move the ball to side at all either.
Since we scored the first goal, we were in the position of winning the match for a while. However, as we lost our concentration a little, our opponent scored a goal in the end. This is very regrettable. However, we must change our mindset and start preparing ourselves for the coming match. We made a conscious effort to press our opponent from the front. However, Hiroshima had excellent players in the center back, especially the two brother players, and they handled the ball quite calmly. For this reason, we were not able to get ahead of them from midway through the match. This was not what we expected to happen and we did poorly this time. We must fix our weak points like this one when we prepare for the next match. Looking at the overall match, I felt that our opponent was quite used to the style of the match.
