Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Nagoya Grampus

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 9th Sec Match against Nagoya Grampus

We lost the first and second goals quite early into the match. When we lost the second goal, we were trying to motivate each other to hang on to do the best we could. However, the team completely lost control after they lost the third goal. Though we still had some time left before the first half of the match finished, we let the first half go without us scoring any goals. We tried to have a fresh start for the second half of the match. But, I feel that the match went on for 90 minutes without us gaining good control.

Questions and Answers

Q: The team will have one week before their next match after losing today’s match with a shocking result. What points are you going to address to prepare for the next match?

A: Since we won’t play until next Saturday after playing the last three matches in a short period of time, we can afford to rest on Sunday and Monday this time. For this reason, I want our team to have a good rest not only physically but also mentally to prepare well for our next match.

Q: How do you prepare your team’s mental side? What are you planning to work on with your team after the weekend?

A: I want to reflect on today’s match seriously and go through the points that our team needs to work on.

Q: The team seemed to have had hard luck today. After your opponent team started to lead the match with some comfortable margin, some of your players started to lose their high spirits while some started to display a strong fighting spirit to bounce back. It would have been good if all of your team members were able to show their adversarial quality.

A: I talked about this with the team during half time. However, we should have shown more of our strong fighting spirit before we finished the first half of the match. Our team lost the ball to our opponent team at critical moments causing the scene to switch, which led to our opponent carrying out offensive plays several times today. There are points that we must reflect upon seriously on top of how today’s match unfolded.

Q: How were you planning to regain control of the match after the team lost it?
A: Our team tried to maintain balance at the back. However, we were put under pressure as we failed to do well in critical moments. Our opponent team also kicked simple long balls up to the front line several times today. It would have been good had our team been able to better control such scenarios.
