Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Ventforet Kofu

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 1st Stage 8th Sec match against Ventforet Kofu

Our team struggled a lot in the matches we played against Ventforet Kofu in the past. We often finished the matches against them with a draw. We knew clearly before the match today how determined Ventforet Kofu players would be to play a tough match against us to win.

With regard to the first half of the match, I am not fully satisfied with our players’ performance. I thought our players made too many square passes when our opponent players were playing a defensive game. There is nothing wrong with making square passes but our team failed to make effective forward passes. Our team was not doing enough today in terms of making effective forward passes to three forward players at the front as well as tackling our opponent team’s defense from the behind by having more numbers of players than our opponent players at the back.

However, our players gradually started to perform what they were missing earlier during the second half of the match. Our players started to pick up the tempo from about twenty minutes before the finish of the match by successfully making forward passes and making attacks from behind while taking more risks.

As for Ventforet Kofu, I thought they played a fantastic match today. As far as I am concerned, I am not the type of team manager who will be satisfied as long as his own team wins. We finished the match with much frustration today. Many of our opponent teams play a defensive game against us just like Ventforet Kofu did today. Against such opponents, our team played our own style of soccer to break their defense and we proved ourselves that we are capable of winning against such opponents. However, with regard to our team’s performance today, I am left with dissatisfaction even though our team won.

We will play against Gamba Osaka next and we will put ourselves in a very difficult position if we would play as we did today. I felt that our supporters gave our players such a great boost today when we were playing a very difficult match. Their passionate cheers pushed our players to pick up their tempo and play more aggressively towards the last 20 minutes of the match. I would like to thank all our supporters who pushed and cheered our players until the very end of the match when the team was struggling.
