Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Shimizu S-Pulse

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd Stage 11th Sec match against Shimizu S-Pulse

First of all, we had very good preparation ahead of today’s match. We regarded Shimzu S-Pulse as a stronger opponent than what their current ranking suggests. I felt that our team had good awareness to fight against such an opponent and had prepared themselves well for the match.

Shimizu S-Pulse has a number of high quality players in their front line. I thought it would be difficult to control players such as Tese Chong, Utaka and Genki Omae if they were given enough time and space. I instructed our players to put pressure aggressively on our opponent team from their front line so that they would not allow good balls to be passed onto opponent team players. I thought our players did well by following my instructions.

As for the first half of the match, our team should have scored a few more goals in reality. Unfortunately, our team players lacked in patience and precision when it came to their last passes and finishes when they had good chances to score goals. Our team scored the first goal. However, Shimizu S-Pulse caught up with our team after we lost a goal from a corner kick.

As for the second half of the match, our team was geared up further and fought against the opponent team without losing their stamina. Our opponent team seemed to have struggled to keep up with our team’s tempo and they were left behind as the match progressed. Under such a circumstance, our players made the most of the opportunities they had created and scored several goals. Looking at the overall match, I think our players’ performance was worthy of their victory.

I heard that soccer is very popular in Shimizu, Shizuoka and people are very interested in soccer. I feel that it’s very regrettable that a team from such a region is now faced with the possibility of a relegation. I really wish that Shimizu S-Pulse will remain in the J1 by doing well in their remaining matches. I think it is very important for the J. League that Shimizu S-Pulse will remain in the J1 as people in this region appreciate soccer so much. For this reason, I sincerely wish that Shimizu S-Pulse will remain in the J1.

I wish Shimizu S-Pulse all the best for their remaining six matches. I believe that Shimizu S-Pulse has what it takes to remain in the J1 not to mention the passionate supporters who bolster them. They have great environment such as Sports Park Ecopa and a fantastic soccer stadium in Nihondaira. I really hope the soccer club blessed with such a great environment will remain in the J1.
