Head Coach Otsuki – press conference after the match against Yokohama F・Marinos

Comment from Head Coach Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 26th Sec match against Yokohama F・Marinos

We had been in difficult situation as we were not able to win for a while. For this reason, we are very pleased to have won three points by winning the match today. Since many of our fans and supporters came to the stadium to bolster us today, it was great that our players were able to show them their fighting spirit until the end of the match. However, as for the match content, there were several times Yokohama F. Marinos outperformed us during the second half of the match such as possessing the ball. As this is the case, though we scored three points by winning the match today, we have challenges to overcome for our next match.

Questions and Answers
Q: You replaced Hashioka with Hirakawa. Was there any accident or something?

A: It was to do with his condition. He was not able to run for 90 minutes. After he came back from the Mexico road trip, he had a medical and physical check before he joined the team for the match. However, he experienced leg cramps at an early stage. He told me in the past that he would be able to run even when he suffered cramps. However, as he got the leg cramp earlier in the match than we had anticipated, we came to the conclusion that it would be better for Hirakawa to play in terms of play and quality.

Q: After the opponent team equalized, it would have been difficult for you to decide whether the team should play it safe to bring one point back home from this away match or aim to win the match to score three points. What kind of plan did you come up with?

A: Certainly, I had considered bringing just one point back home as I didn’t want to gain zero points by losing the match as well as to give three points to our opponent team by letting them win. However, at the same time, I felt the responsibility of showing our desire to win the match to many of our fans and supporters who came to support us in the stadium. It wasn’t like we could finish the match by having the attitude that finishing the match with a tied score would do for us. For this reason, we wanted to keep the hope of scoring another goal and Muto remained to take this role. This was how the match unfolded today.

Q: Yokohama F. Marinos has the tendency of coming forward. As this is the case, your team had focused on attacking the back instead when playing against them and this was how your team won the match today. Can you comment on this?

A: How our team scored the winning goal today was the reflection of what the team practiced doing two days before the match during the training under Team Manager Oswaldo Oliveira. We were able to do exactly what we practiced through today. This was the outcome of how the team worked together under the team manager including staff members. I am pleased that what we had prepared ourselves together for led to a tangible result today.
