After playing the match against Sanfrecce Hiroshima - Team Manager Finke

Comment from Team Manager Volker Finke after playing in the Yamazaki Nabisco Cup/A 1st Sec against Sanfrecce Hiroshima
First of all, I would like to congratulate the opponent team. Some of our young players played really well in the second half and I am not discontent with how they played. In fact, if you only look at how they played in the second half, I think we had chances to score goals and it would have been possible for us to win the game. Unfortunately, the match finished with the result we had. For this reason, I would like to congratulate our opponent.

(You changed two tops in the second half. What was the intention of changing Takahara and Edmilson? How do you assess the young players, Sergio and Haraguchi?)
Basically, I would like to refrain from making any comments on each player in public. This is because I think I should speak to them first about what was good and what was not good.
However, as you also said, especially Haraguchi played really well. On top of him, a few other young players performed really well.
Takahara and Edmilson moved a lot and their vigorous moves helped the team. But, as was expected, they slowed down and got worn out in the second half. As such, we changed those two players with other players.

(What kind of impact did it have on the team that four players were absent due to them joining the national team?)
It cannot be helped that many adjustments had to be made not only for the four national team players but also other players who were injured. In fact, Hosogai who played in the last match could not join us due to some discomfort in his back this time. For this reason, we had to replace five players this time compared to the last match we played.
As this had been the case, I believe missing those five players had some kind of impact on the team. However, we should not forget that young players were given the opportunity to play in the match as a result and they did play really well.

(What do you think about losing the game by one point despite the fact the team had good opportunities to win?)
I think this is what football is all about. Even though we are able to create many chances to score goals, if we cannot actually score goals, then we cannot get the necessary points to win. I think our players were creating opportunities to score goals in the second half. However, they were lacking in their last concentration in front of the goal. They also did not possess enough will power to score a goal. In regards to today’s match, of course, I wanted us to have the third goal so that we could have won the game. Nonetheless, I had a very positive impression from the match we played today.
This is because our young players who will flourish in the future performed really well.

(There was a moment when four defenders remained in their positions during a set-play towards the end of the first half. Was that because they were cautious about counter attacks?)
Basically, virtually any team does not want to face counter attacks during a set piece. I did not originally intend to mention any individual names of the players here today, however as I was asked this question I will say the following. We did not have two players namely Abe and Tulio today who are good at aerial plays. For this reason, we could not make the most of the opportunities for the set piece to score a goal.
But, please do not get me wrong. I am not trying to make any excuses here. What I am trying to say is the fact that the team was missing two players who are good at heading and aerial play.
