Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – press conference after the match against Sagan Tosu

Comment from Team Manager Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 27th Sec match against Sagan Tosu

As you have seen, we scored two goals during the first half of the match. But, the match progressed the way it turned out to be. In the end, our team managed to score one point by finishing the match with a draw. I thought it was a difficult match played between two teams that are ranked at a similar level in the J. League standings. Thanks to the cheer from our fans and supporters, our team was able to get the push they needed to score the final goal today. Since we were able to score two goals during the first half of the match and the third goal which we managed to score in a way our team had practiced during training, I should have been able to do more to help our team when our opponent team scored three goals today. But, it is difficult for me to say much as I am yet to analyze the footage of today’s match. Nonetheless, it was good that the match didn’t finish with our opponent team in domination. We will continue to work hard so that we can turn today’s result into something positive in our next match.

Questions and Answers

Q: With the great bolstering from your fans and supporters, your team managed to finish the match with a draw after an equalizer today. What do you think about this outcome?

A: Obviously, I am disappointed about how the match panned out and that we finished the match with one point today. But, it was a positive development that our team had managed to pull out an equalizer after our opponent scored three goals in the second half. Overall, it was a positive match.

Q: You replaced Ewerton with Shibato about 15 minutes into the second half of the match today. In hindsight, it seemed as though the number of times the ball came close to your goal area increased and your team lost several goals since then. What was your intention of changing those players?

A: My intention was to maintain good kinetic momentum amongst our team. Since there was a space in the middle, I wanted to make sure this was filled. As we had several long balls kicked into that space while it was open, I wanted the spaced to be covered.

Q: Before the penalty kick shoot out at the end of the match, you were having a chat with Makino. Did you discuss with him to nominate Sugimoto for the job?

A: I don’t wish to make any comment regarding this as it is our internal matter.

Q: What was your intention of putting Yuruki into the team when the match result was 2 to 1? Please also tell us to the extent you can as to why Koroki was not in the game today.

A: I wish not to make any comment about Koroki. As for Yuruki. I wanted to make sure we retained the ball within our team. I wanted him to use his position to keep contact with the ball when the ball came in the direction of his position as well as for him to keep the ball in his possession.

Q: You put Muto in as a forward and he scored a goal today. What was your expectation and what did you think of his performance today?

A: As you would have seen how he was during our training, when he is in the position, the movement of the players in the back are also activated. I thought this was also evident during today’s match.
