Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Nagoya Grampus

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 20th Sec Match against Nagoya Grampus 【MATCH PARTNER POLUS Co., Ltd.】

Though we finished the match with a disappointing result, our players worked really well despite the fact that we couldn’t score any goals. I feel sorry that I also made a little complaint to the referee. But, I feel really grateful for our players that they showed their strong determination to win throughout the 90 minutes of the match as well as the additional five minutes until the very end of the match today. Had we been able to score a goal before our opponent did, things would have been different. Our players adjusted their wide formation and were swift in their movements. They were also moving the ball around as well. We were quite close to mount a comeback today.

Questions and Answers

Q: Martinus was selected to play as a starting member and he had created several good opportunities by playing aggressively today. What was your reason for selecting him to play from the beginning of the match?

A: What you saw answers your question. He is capable of creating good chances in a wide formation and kicking the ball with his left foot from inside. I had considered his strengths and selected him to be a starting player.

Q: Your team has finished playing five successive matches over a short period and has lost the last three matches consecutively. I imagine it must have been difficult for the team to spare enough time to make the necessary corrections during this time. Now that you have one week before your next match, what do you want to address?

A: After we recover ourselves better, I want our team to work a little more on their defense. I want the team to be able to put more pressure on our opponent from the front rather than keeping their tight guard before making attacks. I would also like our team to organize themselves when they switch from their offensive to defense. In addition, we need to improve our play in the attacking third of the pitch.

Q: Your team showed some good performance particularly during the first half of the match. As such, had your team been able to score the first goal, the result of the match could have been different. However, given the result of the match, I imagine your fans and supporters were feeling disappointed and worried about the team. Can you give them a few words?

A: I am very sorry and disappointed about today’s result as we scored zero goals in our home match. However, I am grateful that our players worked hard and showed a strong determination to win until the end of the match. I must be responsible for today’s result as the team manager. As far as what our players were trying to overcome and express is concerned, I can only thank them for it. I am sorry for making our fans and supporters feel disappointed but we will continue to work hard again to do our best.
