Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki – Press Conference after the Match against Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

Comment from Team Manager Tsuyoshi Otsuki after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 16th Sec Match against Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo

It was great to see how our players performed in scoring the first two goals today. However, we lost two goals shortly after that and an additional goal later as well. Though we came to Hokkaido to play today’s match where it is cooler at the end of the summer, I felt that our players started to show deterioration in their condition after having played a few match over a short period recently. But, it was great that our fresh substitute players who joined the team towards the end of the match managed to change the final score. I thought our players did a good job in dealing with some difficult situations today.

Questions and Answers

Q: Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo were holding the ball in their possession for quite some time today. What did you think about that?

A: We had expected this would be the case. However, after we scored the first two goals, some of our opponent players started to ward off our marking and we started to lose control one by one. Even though we had prepared ourselves for this type of scenario, we struggled to respond well and fell behind in our action. We tried to deal with this situation in a better manner, but it proved to be a little difficult.

Q: I thought your team endured well today including the situation regarding the corner kick.

A: Yes, though we scored an own goal, our team endured well today.

Q: During the second half of the match, the team didn’t have much time to wage attacks against your opponent team as they missed getting second balls a few times and couldn’t press them back.

A: Yes, that was the case today. For this reason, I put Shibato into the team during the match to cover for this as well as other different types of players to cover the sides and wide across the pitch in order to press our opponent with good speed and to take over the back. Though the time our players successfully executed what we had intended to do was limited, it was great that our intention proved effective and our team had managed to score a goal from the side.
