Team Manager Oswaldo Oliveira – press conference after the match against Gamba Osaka

Comment from Team Manager Oliveira after the Meiji Yasuda J1 League 15th Sec match against Gamba Osaka

I am very pleased that I was able to come back to Japan. It was an honor for me to oversee a wonderful match played in this beautiful stadium. It was also a great pleasure to have played a match against the team now led by my friend Levir Culpi.
Both teams played a fair and full-fledged match today and both teams had created many opportunities to score goals. Having said that, looking at the numbers and the sizes of the chances created by both teams, I trust that Urawa Reds were on top today.

Questions and Answers
Q: Though the team had carried the ball successfully to the goal area, it seemed as though players were not swift enough or dithered about making judgments. What do you think of the quality of your players’ performance in front of the goal?
A: I regard this as one of the points to be improved. I haven’t been able to increase the intensity of training due to the number of matches we have played over the past few weeks. It’s been one month since I came to Japan. We have played eight matches over this period and have had limited time to prepare the team between each match. I have been working on the recovery of our players and their preparation at the same time.
However, despite the limited time we have had between each match, I believe that our variety of play has increased. I trust the point you have identified will also be improved in time.

Q: The first stage of the season has finished with today’s match. Looking back at the players’ performance, do you think they outperformed beyond your expectation or is there still something more to be desired?
A: I wanted to analyze the team over the last eight matches. With this in mind, I have observed the team to see how they have progressed. During this time, I was able to see some positive development. As this is the case, I believe they will be able to pull out good performances in the second half of the season.
