Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Shonan Bellmare

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd Stage 7th Sec match against Shonan Bellmare

I have made critical comments in the past if players performed badly even when they had won their matches and vice versa if their performance was good. Having said that, the comment I will give today will be based on Japanese values as the result meant everything today. When we played against Sanfrecce Hiroshima, our players played a great top game but weren’t able to achieve a good result after receiving our opponent’s counter attacks as they had intended. As for the match against Nagoya Grampus, our players performed really well with one less player. It wouldn’t have been a surprise had our team won the match. However, our team lost by receiving a counter attack in the end. With regard to today’s match, we aimed to win the match and our players performed fully in order to achieve this aim.

Other teams are praised when they win a match. However, Urawa Reds may be criticized even after we win depending on our performance. I sometimes wonder why there are such differences.

We won today’s match as we intended to. Koroki and Zlatan created a few scoring opportunities they could have nailed. But, I don’t think Shonan Bellmare created decisive scoring opportunities today. In this regard, I trust we outperformed our opponent in terms of creating decisive opportunities as well. I would like to praise the hard efforts our players made today.

After the second stage began, our team had a period without positive results. Due to the national team’s schedule, we had a two-week break too. During that time, four members had to leave the team to join the national team. Kashiwagi also sustained an injury in his adductor muscles. The team had a difficult time playing the last two matches. However, I would like to praise our team players as they have managed to overcome difficult hurdles. We will have one week to prepare before our next match against Vegalta Sendai. We can finally have all our players together to prepare for our next match. The team can regard the past two matches positively and I believe that we have created a positive momentum for the upcoming match against Vegalta Sendai.
