Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Gamba Osaka

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 4th sec match against Gamba Osaka

Looking back at today’s match result, some may think that it was really good that we were able to catch up with Gamba Osaka to be one to one during the additional time. Perhaps, the media would comment tomorrow something positive about today’s match was that Urawa Reds finished the match with a draw result in the end. However, reflecting back on the overall match, there was more to it and our team did really well today by playing the type of soccer we had aimed to play against a formidable team, Gamba Osaka.

We were the only teams playing today on Sunday in the J1 League. For this reason, I believe the match had attracted more people to come to the stadium compare to other J1 League matches. In addition, I trust many soccer fans had also watched the match on TV today. While many people were watching, we were able to create many good opportunities and several good attacking moves. It was unfortunate that Gamba Osaka had nailed the one opportunity they had created and we were running behind. However, even if we had lost the match without being able to catch up with our opponent team today, I would have made the same comment regarding today’s match. We played a great game today. Our players’ performance was fantastic regardless of the final result. Urawa Reds has to continue to play like we did today.

Gamba Osaka is a refined and strong team with much experience. Against such a team, Urawa Reds players had created many good chances while balancing their moves well on the pitch by understanding the strategies we set out to achieve. When it comes to the end result, I am certainly not satisfied. However, I am very content with the type of soccer our team had played and the aims we had fulfilled.

There are many ways of evaluating a match and everyone has his or her own opinion. However, this is how I evaluate today’s match as the team manager.
