Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Gamba Osaka

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 1st Stage 10th Sec match against Gamba Osaka

Although we had a great game today, our team didn’t have a good start especially in the first half of the match. I thought our team was not quite on top of managing the risks against our opponent players who were at the front line when we lost the ball while making offensive plays. After we lost the ball, Gamba’s players number seven (Yasuhito Endo) and nine (Ademilson) created one-on-one situations against our players. When this happened, it was quite difficult for us to stop them as they are highly skilled players with speed. Our team should have been more thorough in our risk management after we lost the ball.

During the first half of the match, our team was making offensive plays with the ball in our possession against very fierce counter attacks from our opponent team. As for the second half of the match, we changed how we built up our attacks at the back in order to better respond to our opponent’s counters. We were able to better manage their counters while continuing our attacks by controlling the match. Our team also created several opportunities as we pressed our opponent players and made good attacks against them as though we were playing a half court match.

However, we feel the impact of fatigue acutely now after playing a series of J. League and ACL matches over a short period of time. There were few occasions when our players’ response was half a step or a step behind or they lacked in precision in their last passes and kicks. Teams such as FC Tokyo, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Gamba Osaka are all ranked as they are now as a result of going through something similar earlier in the season. I thought our team was suffering from the same type of problems as those teams today.
However, having said all this, our players’ performance during the second half of the match had something hopeful despite the bad result today. Though we must continue to play a number of matches over the forthcoming short period, we can only work hard on what we can do as a united team under the current situation. After we are through with this period, we will be back to our routine of paying one match a week. As this is the case, we are looking ahead as to how we can rebuild ourselves through concentrating on both training and matches. We cannot do anything but keep pushing ourselves as a united team in order to overcome the challenges we currently face over the upcoming tough period.
