Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Albirex Niigata

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 1st Stage 17th Sec match against Albirex Niigata

I walked around the stadium after we finished playing the match. This was the first time for me to walk around the stadium that much. As a result, I am very worn out now. Before we played today’s match, our team was in a difficult condition. We won our previous match against Vissel Kobe and won the title of the first stage after playing 16 matches without any defeats. Our players had been interviewed and featured in the media extensively which had been a distraction for them. It is often the case with players that they struggle to pull out great performances after winning a title.

During this week’s training, I told our players to switch their minds to concentrate on today’s match as I regarded it as the most important match out of the 17 matches we have played. I was keen to see how our players would perform after winning the title. I wondered if some players won’t be able to concentrate on their performance or would be too proud and perform in a self-centered way. It was an interesting match for me in terms of assessing our players responses in this regard.

At the beginning of the match, our players were not able to perform as they intended because of being under pressure from our opponent. Our opponents try to put hard pressure on us every match we play. However, as today’s match progressed, the pressure placed on us was mitigated and our team was able to pull out a fantastic offensive.

During the second half of the match, our team successfully scored a few more goals through their fine attacks. However, they lost two goals in very pitiful plays by our defense. When players start to get worn out, they struggle a little in terms of their defense and start to lose their concentration. They also become less disciplined. When this happens, it is important for us to reflect on these points in order to rectify our issues. I want to raise the level of the team even further from now by training them to make better judgements also in their offense and to improve their precision. We will have a little break now but we will train ourselves to address these points before we start the second stage.
