Team Manager Mischa and Player Daisuke Nasu attend official interview session the day before the match against FC Seoul

An official AFC Champions League (ACL) 2017 pre-match interview session was held at Seoul World Cup Stadium in Seoul on the 9th May ahead of the following day’s group stage MD6 match against FC Seoul. Urawa Reds Team Manager Mischa and Player Daisuke Nasu attended the interview session to express their excitement and determination for the upcoming match.

Comment from Team Manager Mischa
I regard the teams of our group in the ACL as all very much equal in terms of their capabilities compared to the other groups and therefore ours is a very challenging group. FC Seoul is a very strong team and has come second place in the ACL in the past. As for Western Sydney Wanderers, they once won the title of the Asian Champion. Shanghai SIPG has invested a lot of money into the team and is recently emerging as a very formidable team. As this is the case, it would not be strange to have any team including ourselves qualify for the next stage.

After the previous match we played, Shanghai SIPG and us Urawa Reds secured a place in the next round. However, as a sportsman, I know that FC Seoul is no less inferior to our team and I feel regrettable that they were not able to qualify for the next round.

We played our round 16 second leg match against FC Seoul here in Seoul last year. At that time, we unfortunately lost the match after a penalty shootout in the end. We will be playing against FC Seoul again tomorrow.

I am expecting a very hard and fierce game like the one we had last year ahead of us tomorrow. As FC Seoul will be leaving the group stage, they have no pressure whereas we have a strong desire to get to the next stage as the top team. When playing a match like the one we have tomorrow, things can get quite tricky because of the different frames of mind the two teams have. When a very capable team like FC Seoul play under no pressure, they can often exert their true strengths and this is what happens often in the world of soccer.

Nonetheless, we came here to win the match tomorrow. As this is the case, we will unite our power together to fight through with all our might in order to get to the next stage as the top ranked team in the group stage.

Comment from Player Daisuke Nasu
I regard our opponent, FC Seoul as a powerful team with highly capable players. Though FC Seoul is going to leave the group stage after the match tomorrow, we need to win the match in order to move to the next stage as a top team. For this reason, we must battle well around the ball and run hard in order to win the match tomorrow.

In addition, tomorrow’s match can change our lives in the future. One soccer match can change how people view us and everything depends on our strong determination to win.

We absolutely need to win the match tomorrow. As such, we will play as a united team without forgetting our core principles so that we can move to the next stage as a number one team.
