A signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding was held with Saitama City regarding cooperation toward realizing a zero-carbon city.

We would like to inform you that on the 26th, Urawa Reds signed a "Memorandum of Understanding concerning a Comprehensive Agreement on Cooperation between Saitama City and Urawa Red Diamonds Co., Ltd." with Saitama City.

This memorandum of understanding aims to work together and cooperate to realize a zero-carbon city, including introducing solar power generation equipment to Ohara Training Ground and conducting public awareness campaigns for citizens.

The signing ceremony was attended by Saitama City Mayor Hayato Shimizu Shimizu, Urawa Reds representative Makoto Taguchi, and other related parties who signed the memorandum of understanding.

At the outset, Mayor Shimizu mentioned that Saitama City is promoting decarbonization efforts to achieve its goal of becoming a "zero-carbon city" with net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, and explained that "it is important for citizens, businesses, and the administration to work together as one, not just the administration." He also expressed his view that addressing climate change is an urgent task in order to realize a sustainable sports environment in Saitama, a "city of sports."

Furthermore, he mentioned the collaboration with Urawa Reds in various fields since the comprehensive agreement was signed in 2013, and expressed his hope that "this memorandum of understanding will serve as an opportunity to further promote initiatives toward realizing a decarbonized society, including the introduction of solar power generation equipment at Ohara Training Ground."

Taguchi then spoke about how recent climate change is having a significant impact on Trial operations. He explained that in addition to numerous kickoff delays and Trial cancellations due to severe weather during home games in the summer of 2024, the environment surrounding sports has changed dramatically, including the risk of heatstroke for spectators due to the intense heat and the impact on players' physical condition management.

He then stated, "I have a sense of crisis that if things continue as they are, we may face a future where we can no longer enjoy soccer or sports," and explained that while the J.League as a whole is accelerating its efforts toward climate action, Urawa Reds also considers environmental issues to be one of its important priorities and is continuously working on them as a club.

Through this collaboration, we plan to actively engage in the introduction of renewable energy, starting with the installation of solar power generation equipment at Ohara Training Ground, as well as participation in projects such as the "Saitama J-Credit Project," and in raising awareness among citizens and providing environmental education.

Going forward, Urawa Reds will continue to work with the people of our hometown to promote initiatives toward the realization of a sustainable society.
