Matsuo, who grew up in the academy of Urawa Reds as a junior youth and youth player, returned to Urawa Reds in 2022 after three seasons at Sendai University and Yokohama FC. In his first season with Reds, Matsuo had a good start to the training camp, but was delayed by a subsequent injury, and after the Sapporo game he continued to Trial play in the middle of the park for a while, but from the summer onwards he won a place in the starting line-up as a forward rather than on the left side, where he had been playing most of the time.

Then, in the 22nd game against Shimizu S-Pulse, when the goalkeeper played a mid-range shot by Takahiro Sekine, a senior member of the academy, he pushed the ball in front of the goal like a striker, scoring his first goal since joining the club and contributing greatly to the Reds' victory.

In January 2023, he moved to Belgium's first division KVC Westerlo and returned to Reds in January 2024 after gaining experience abroad. he played 24 Trial games in the J1 League in the 2024 season, scoring four goals, the same as in 2022, despite being out for about two months due to some back pain.

He scored two goals against Sagan Tosu and Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the 7th and 36th rounds, but the most impressive goal was scored in the 26th round against Tosu away from home.

He received the ball on the left side of his own half, dribbled and kept his opponents at bay, and then drove into the penalty area and shot the ball past the goalkeeper from an angle. It was a shocking goal that fully demonstrated Matsuo's speed, technique, and potential.

In December 2024, he underwent surgery for a herniated lumbar disc and was forced to undergo rehabilitation in the preseason, but he played in the second Kyoto Sanga F.C. and third Shonan Bellmare matches, and made his 100 Trial J1 League appearances in the fourth Kashiwa Reysol match, and his 50 Trial J1 League appearances in Urawa Reds.
