Jumpei Hayakawa YBC Levain Cup New Hero Award Winners Announcement

On the 31st, the 2023 J League YBC Levain Cup New Hero Award winner presentation was held, and Jumpei Hayakawa who won the award, expressed his joy and answered questions from the media.

``First of all, I am honored to have been able to win such a prestigious New Hero Award.I could not have won it on my own, and I would like to thank everyone involved in the club.''

[Question-and-answer session]
(How do you honestly feel after receiving the announcement?)
``I had in mind that it was a possibility, but when I was told, I was surprised.''

(Did you receive any congratulations from your family?)
``I kept forgetting to tell my family, and when I happened to meet them yesterday and told them, they said something like, ``You should say it quickly.'' The other players said ``Congratulations,'' and Hiroki Sakai He said, ``As the captain, I'll get all the sweets.''

(Many of the Reds' New Hero Award winners have played on the Japanese national team, but do they have any goals related to the Japanese national team?)
``The players who won the New Hero Award are spreading their wings, so I feel an even greater sense of responsibility.I think these players are the ones we should emulate, so I want to do my best to catch up as soon as possible.''

(Have you thought about how to use the prize money?)
"As a joke, Yoshio Koizumi told me, ``I'll take care of it,'' but I haven't thought about how I'll use it yet.

(What are your enthusiasm for the finals to be held on November 4th?)
“I think we are preparing well as a team, and I hope we can prepare even better. Personally, I have a lot of issues with my condition, but I am also preparing for the finals, and I hope to prepare even better. I want to prepare well together with the staff.”

(Do you have a future vision of what kind of player you want to be?)
``I don't have anything in particular that I want to do right now, but I want to become a player that will be used for a long time.''

(When you debuted with the first team this year, was there a game that was a turning point?)
``The most memorable game was against Shonan Bellmare (in round 4 of the group stage), where I made my debut at Saitama Stadium and started for the first time.''

(Maybe the reason why that match left an impression on me was because I scored a goal?)
“That's one thing, and I think being able to experience that atmosphere at home was a big factor.”

(You have played in various tournaments such as the YBC Levain Cup, which led to you winning the New Hero Award, the J1 League, and the AFC Champions League. How do you feel about your response, confidence, and challenges as a player?)
``I think I am able to play with confidence against teams that have a certain theory, but I feel that I have not yet been able to respond and adapt to teams that have strayed from their theory. .I have experience in that regard, and I think that's what I need to do from now on.''

(What kind of play do you feel was praised for winning the New Hero Award?)
``I personally don't think there is anything that stands out above all else, so all I can say is that I was given a comprehensive judgment and evaluation.''

(I don't think he is a player whose weapon is dribbling, but I think he has honed his ability to receive the ball between opponents and jump forward.)
``The staff have also talked about playing between the lines, and I think it's important when playing at wide half or below the top, so I'm conscious of playing the role there. Their personalities are different, so I'm thinking about playing while looking at each player's individuality, including situations where I can get behind the scenes."

(How do you feel about the strength of Urawa Reds? What kind of team is Urawa Reds?)
``I believe that the passionate support of our fans and supporters is unique to Urawa Reds, and we also receive generous support from our partners in club management. That's what I think, and that's what I feel the most."

(What are the characteristics of the Reds' soccer?)
"This season, with the appointment of coach Maciej (Scorja), we are able to compete defensively. Everyone from the front to the back is working hard. The strength of this year's Reds is that we have lost fewer games from that point of view. I think"

(What are your thoughts on winning the YBC Levain Cup title?)
``I joined the first team this year for the first time, and I hadn't signed a contract yet at the time of the ACL (AFC Champions League) final, but I think the title is an honor since I'm playing as a player. , I want to improve as much as possible both as a team and as an individual.I feel like I have no choice but to win.''

(I think he is the third person from Urawa Reds Reds' academy to receive the award, following Genki Haraguchi and Zion Suzuki, but what were they like?)
``I didn't have a chance to talk to Mr. Haraguchi and only saw him on TV, but the fact that there is a player who achieved results at the (FIFA World Cup) and who grew up on this team and went that far means that he is a great addition to the club. I think it's a big plus, and I feel closer to myself because we're from the same club.I think it's good to have players to model after. As for Zion, he's like last year and this year. We played together and got a good look at things other than just the game. There was a lot to learn from in terms of play, but I think there was a lot to learn from in preparation."

(As an academy player, are you conscious of being a role model for your juniors?)
“There are a lot of players at the academy who were my friends, so I feel more like a camaraderie than a role model.”

(When you were participating in the training camp in Okinawa in January of this year, could you have imagined where you are now?)
“I had no idea.”

(Are you surprised because you didn't imagine it?)
"I didn't expect to come this far, so I'm surprised."

(How do you feel when you look back at past award winners? Most of them are players on the Japanese national team. Do you feel pressured? Or does it encourage you?)
``There's a lot of pressure on me, and I don't know what will happen in the future, but I do hope that I can move on to at least one higher stage.''

(What is your favorite Yamazaki biscuit?)
"I don't really eat sweets, so I'd like to decide after I receive them."

(I heard that Mr. Sakai told me, ``As the captain, I will receive all the sweets,'' but will he share them with his teammates and staff?)
"Of course. I want to give it to various people."
