Team Manager Mischa - press conference after the match against Sagan Tosu

Comment from Team Manager Mischa after the Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company J. League 2nd stage 11th sec match against Sagan Tosu

Today’s match was an extremely important match for us. Certainly, every match is important but this match was of particular importance as we lost our past two J. League matches, one against Kawasaki Frontale despite our good performance and another away match against Vissel Kobe by repeating unnecessary mistakes. As for the match in Kobe, though our team was performing quite well by creating many scoring opportunities, we lost the match as a result of several mistakes which we shouldn’t have made.

Had we lost another match today, it would have made it very hard for us to continue to remain amongst the top teams for the season or the second stage. In this sense, we found today’s match particularly challenging.

We were required to win the match today. However, Sagan Tosu had been performing well and achieving great results since the beginning of the second stage except for when they pitifully lost a match against Gamba Osaka. I believe that their discipline, effective counter attacks from good defense, great secondary attacks after intercepting long balls as well as their unity as a team helped them to achieve good results. The fact that we had to play against such a team certainly made it challenging for us to do well today.

We found it hard to decide whether we should put pressure on them from the front or we should retreat to the back and form a good defense block. This was because their goal keeper has a great capability of kicking long balls and if they managed to pass the ball to their goal keeper, he can kick the ball easily to the middle of our side of the pitch. For this reason, we found it difficult to decide whether we should push from the front or retreat back.

However, having said that, our team was able to perform the type of match we had aimed to play with good discipline to achieve the goal we had set to achieve. With regard to our attacks, we had managed to score two goals in an excellent manner with clear offensive moves.

Had we been able to be more relaxed, we could have found it a little easier to achieve our set goal. Nonetheless, it was great that our players seized the positive result today despite the challenging situation we had. For this reason, I would like to give them a passing grade for their performance today.
