Thiago: "I want to get on a roll and score lots of goals"
After scoring the team's first goal of the season against Kyoto Sanga F.C. in the second round of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League on March 22, Thiago Santana talked about the goal-scoring scene and his enthusiasm for the next round.
(About the scoring scene?)
(About the scoring scene?) "I think it was the result of my faith. In the second half, there was a headwind, so when the opponent tried to make a back pass, I was expecting the goalkeeper to not be able to reach it. So I was able to get past the goalkeeper and score.
(Do you always aim for mistakes like that?)
(Do you always aim for such mistakes?) "Yes, soccer is a sport in which there are many mistakes, and I think that if you don't believe that your opponents will make mistakes, especially the front line players, you won't get results. I am glad we were able to take advantage of the few chances we had."
(Did you go to dodge the goalkeeper, or did you choose more certainty?)
I was going to strike first, but the goalkeeper was close by, and I thought I could score more surely if I dodged the goalkeeper.
(It was the team's first goal of the season.)
(It was the team's first goal of the season?) "It is very difficult to play three away games in a row after the start of the season. There are many Trial we have to do at their home, but we couldn't get three points in the two Trial games since the start of the season. We will do our best to get three points in the next Shonan Bellmare match."
(With your first goal, will you be able to ride the wave from here?)
I hope to ride the wave and score many goals from now on. We have a really tight schedule ahead of us, and the FIFA Club World Cup is coming up in June. I think J1 is a very difficult and intense league, but as a team we are aiming for the championship, so we will try our best to score as many goals as possible and win the J1 title.
