Koizumi: "It's important that the whole team can come together and have the same intention."

On September 2, after the match against Albirex Niigata in Round 26 of the Meiji Yasuda J1 League, Yoshio Koizumi talked about her impressions of the match, her own situation, and her future enthusiasm.

(How do you feel looking back on the game?)
“Frankly, it was the same for the entire team, as well as the fans and supporters who were watching, but it was a very frustrating result.

(During the time Koizumi was playing, I think he was able to defend the ball compactly and set up a short counter even when the opponent had the ball?)
“In hindsight, I think the pressure was dropping during the time period when we conceded the goal, but even when the pressure dropped, the team as a whole shifted to keeping it compact and not conceding a goal. It's a mistake to make a wrong choice, but there is no doubt that it is easy for accidents to occur due to deflection if you pull it in and firmly fix it. I think it will be the same choice again, so it can't be helped if I say it can't be helped. There were times when we couldn't score even though we had chances to score the second goal on the counter, so we overwhelmed ourselves and attacked. If we could have done it, we wouldn't have been able to do that, so I think it was pure lack of strength that we weren't able to create time in offense and keep the pressure on the opponent. I did my best, but in order to increase the probability of winning, I didn't play (Yokohama F ・) If we can't make it like the match against Marinos, it will be like an accident. The probability of conceding a point in

(I think I was able to press well at the beginning of the game, and when I drew, I was able to be compact, so I think I was able to do a good defense that I haven't seen in recent times.)
“The turf was pretty bad, so I think it was a good turf for what we were aiming for. We created a solid 4-4-2 zone and put up with it. There were several scenes where I was able to steal the ball successfully, and I think that was a very good aim. However, personally, I am the same, but the short counter is the same. There were too many developments like this, so if you can score a goal there, there is no problem. There are times when I wonder if

(Tomoaki Okubo left the field due to injury, and Koizumi also got a cramped leg. Isn't the burden on the side players heavy?)
“Okubo has been playing for a long time, so it may be unavoidable. Personally, I didn’t intend to let him play until the end of today’s development and today’s opponent, so I will do my best. I was playing so as not to create holes. It's a heavy burden, but it's for the sake of winning, so I'll do my best."

(Koizumi played full time in the AFC Champions League 2023/24 playoff against Ribun, and today as well, his playing time in the J1 league spans both the first and second halves since the match against Kawasaki Frontale on April 23. Do you have a better sense of play with more playing time?
“In defense, we have good team tactics and individual tactics, and as a team, we are well-versed in this aspect. Personally, we still have a long way to go in offense. There was a scene where I gave a side pass to a player, but if I could have done a more decisive job and scored the second goal, I think the game would have been easier.”

(Isn't it difficult to connect the pass in the bad pitch condition?)
“It was difficult to connect, but the weak point of the opponent and our strong point were clear, and I was able to win at (Hiroki) Sakai and (Takahiro) Akimoto, and Ito. (Atsuki) I was able to create a significant advantage by running behind the player. The pitch condition is bad, but it didn't matter much in that kind of play.Because the pitch condition is bad, we have to put more pressure on the opponent. As I said earlier, it's an afterthought now, but it was an environment where if we kept putting pressure on the opponent, they wouldn't be able to play comfortably. It's the same with Sheen, but I regret that.If I were to be in the same situation again, I would have to make the same choices, so it's difficult. It's the same with the whole team, but when we're pushed, we also take risks and face the opponent. The choice of whether to apply pressure or solidify realistically is up to the coach, and more than anything else, it is important for the entire team to have a unified mindset. In the next Gamba match (against Osaka) and the J1 League, the team will have to decide. I think it's going to be very important to keep the intentions of the coach, the players, and the players in the team. No matter what choice I make, I think it's more important to be able to come together as a team and have the same intention.
