Round 27 vs. Kyoto “Offensive efforts in the final stages lead to a draw and we earn 1 point”

On March 15, Urawa Reds went to Saitama Stadium to face Kyoto Sanga F.C. [MATCH PARTNER RDC] in the 27th round of the Meiji Yasuda Seimei J1 League.

Reds gradually picked up the pace in the first half and spent much of the second half on the offensive, but failed to score a goal and drew 0-0.

In the first half, Kyoto's frontline pressing pushed the Reds back at times, but they were able to build up a rhythm by building up and passing behind their opponents to break away from their press. When the opponents had the ball, they pressed, fought on the edge of the ball, and as time went on, raised their playing area.

Toward the end of the first half, Takahiro Sekine had a chance to go one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper when he received a pass from Jose Kante after breaking behind the opposing defensive line, but he was unable to get a shot past the goalkeeper. Immediately after that, Jumpei Hayakawa stole a pass from the opponent in enemy territory, dribbled forward and fired a mid-range shot, but it was blocked by the opposing goalkeeper.

Hiroki Sakai In the second half, Takahiro Akimoto and Atsuki Ito replaced Hayakawa, and the visitors pushed their opponents hard from the start.

In the 61st minute, Ito received a pass from Shusaku Nishikawa, dribbled from his own half, and finally crossed from Kaito Yasui to Kante in front of the goal, who chest-trapped the ball and shot. The goal was not scored, but Ito, who had just returned from a stint with Japan's national team in Europe, created a chance with his characteristic propulsive power.

In the 65th minute, Kante received the ball in the center of the field, broke through despite being surrounded by opponents, and shot with his left foot with the help of Sekine, who blocked an attempt by an opponent to pull him in close. The ball flew into the upper left corner of the goal, but was blocked by the goalkeeper.

In the 67th minute, attacking players Bryan Linssen and Toshiki Takahashi replaced Sekine and Yasui on the pitch, further increasing the momentum of the attack.

In the 75th minute, a long feed by Ken Iwao, a grounded cross by Ito in the 77th minute, and a pass by Kante in the 79th minute led to a series of chances for Linssen in the opposing penalty area, but no goals were scored.

In the 82nd minute, Shinzo Koroki replaced Yoshio Koizumi, and the team went on the offensive again, with four registered players on the pitch.

In the 88th minute, Koroki shot a cross from Akimoto while in front of goal. The ball bounced in front of him and he met it with a difficult ball, but it missed the top of the box.

After that, the Reds players continued to overwhelmingly push the ball, picking up second balls and aiming for the goal. The Reds continued to fight for the victory until the very end, but no goal was scored, and the game ended 0-0.

The next match will be the AFC Champions League 2023/24 group stage MD1 match against Wuhan Sanzhen (China), which will be played away from home at the Wuhan Sports Center Stadium on September 20 at 9 p.m. Japan time.
